DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF NETWORK SECURITY IN A DISTRIBUTED DATABASE (A CASE STUDY OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OFFA) – Complete Project Material
Abstract
The rapid expansion of information technology and the increasing reliance on distributed systems in modern organizations have made network security a paramount concern. This thesis explores the design and implementation of a network security system tailored for a distributed database, using the Federal Polytechnic Offa as a case study. The aim is to develop a robust security framework that safeguards sensitive institutional data and ensures secure communication within a distributed network environment.
The research begins with an in-depth analysis of the existing network architecture at Federal Polytechnic Offa, identifying vulnerabilities and potential security risks. The distributed database environment, which allows for data storage across multiple interconnected nodes, introduces challenges such as data consistency, access control, and secure communication. By applying a combination of encryption techniques, authentication protocols, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems (IDS), this study proposes a comprehensive security model.
The implemented system was tested in real-world scenarios within the institution's network, with performance metrics evaluating the system’s effectiveness in preventing unauthorized access, data breaches, and other common security threats. The results indicate that the proposed security model significantly enhances the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the distributed database while ensuring minimal performance degradation.
This work contributes to the ongoing efforts to improve network security in educational institutions and offers a scalable model for securing distributed databases. The findings and recommendations presented can be applied to other institutions and organizations facing similar challenges in securing their distributed systems.
