DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF 3D CARD PAYMENT SECURITY SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF IBOKUN MICRO FINANCE BANK OBOKUN) – Complete Project Material
Abstract
This project presents the Design and Implementation of a 3D Card Payment Security System, using Ibokun Microfinance Bank, Obokun, as a primary case study. As digital financial services expand within the microfinance sector, the rising incidence of card-not-present (CNP) fraud necessitates the adoption of advanced authentication frameworks. The 3D-Secure protocol addresses these vulnerabilities by establishing a three-domain model comprising the Acquirer Domain (merchant), the Issuer Domain (bank), and the Interoperability Domain (payment gateway).
The study details the system architecture, focusing on the seamless integration of cardholder authentication without compromising transaction speed. Key technical components—including secure socket layer encryption, dynamic authentication challenges, and real-time verification—are analyzed to demonstrate their effectiveness in mitigating unauthorized transactions. Furthermore, the implementation process within the specific context of a local microfinance institution is evaluated, identifying unique operational challenges such as infrastructure limitations and user-adoption barriers.
The findings indicate that the 3D-Secure framework significantly strengthens the security posture of electronic payments, fostering greater trust among stakeholders in the digital economy. This project provides a scalable roadmap for microfinance institutions to enhance their digital security infrastructure and safeguard customer assets against evolving cyber threats.
